Did you know that calcium-based acid neutralizers are advertised as beneficial sources of supplemental calcium, some consumers, especially elderly women, overuse them in an effort to prevent osteoporosis. Ironically, calcium carbonate, an inorganic form of the mineral that is very poorly absorbed because it neutralizes HCL needed for its utilization. Because calcium requires an acid environment in order to be properly absorbed by the body, the carbonates, because they have an alkalizing effect, are a very poor dietary source of the mineral. In order to maintain bone health and reverse osteoporosis make sure you supplement with a high-quality calcium such as Metagenics Cal Apatite Plus and a high-quality enzyme such as Queen's Superzymes.
