Andropause (Male Menopause)

Andropause occurs around the age of forty when testosterone levels begin to decline. Symptoms of andropause include fatigue, head hair growth slowed, ear hair increased, loss of muscle mass, frequent urination, postural changes, weight gain around the middle, low sex drive, and depression. It is best to limit red meats, fried foods, full-fat dairy foods, caffeine and sugar. The following foods help restore sexual health: Brewer's yeast, seeds, nuts, and oysters. Of course exercise is a vital part of male sexuality, improving frequency, satisfaction, and performance. Stress management is also critical for sexual health. Supporting the adrenal glands during andropause will prevent fatigue and burnout. The following are a list of supportive supplements during andropause:
 
  • Tribulus terrestis
  • For impotence: gingko biloba
  • Prostate health: saw palmetto, pygeum zinc. Limit or eliminate alcohol (beer especially elevates DHT levels).
  • To increase muscle mass: whey protein shake in the morning; L-glutamine simulates the body's own growth hormones.
