Chocolate & Cardiac Health

Researchers have found that the cocoa bean is rich in nutrients called flavonoids, which help the body resist free radical damage from oxidation that can cause cholestrol to turn into plaque on artery walls. Flavanols are antioxidants and they have been shown to reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow. The best form of chocolate is organic, dark chocolate that has not been processed with alkalizing (Dutch processing) or roasting, which kills enzymes. It's best to eat chocolate that is at least 74% cocoa. Chocolate is also a rich source of Magnesium.
