Pineapple the Stomach's Friend

Fresh pineapple contains an enzyme called Bromelain. Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme capable of "breaking down" proteins and releasing the amino acids that form them. Because of this, pineapple bromelain has long been used in the food industry as a meat tenderizer. Bromelain acts in the digestive tract by breaking down proteins and facilitating digestion in much the same way as the stomach's own pepsin. Pineapple has been known to help with the following health conditions:
  • Hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)
  • Gastric ptosis (prolapsed stomach) caused by the stomach's inability to empty itself
  • Obesity (when consumed before a meal reduces appetite)
  • Sterility (pineapple is rich in manganese, a trace element actively involved in the formation of reproductive cells)
  • Stomach cancer ( pineapple is a powerful inhibitor of the formation of nitrosamines)
